Description

Acrylic on canvas, 18” x 24”. Photographed unglazed. Colors are slightly off; see the detail for more accurate tones. Apologies for the slightly grainy texture. My camera is not very good.

My first acrylic painting of the semester… warming up for a more ambitious project. I’ve wanted to paint a girl drooling for a while. ;)

Crits are welcomed. Thanks for looking. :]

Ooo. Drooling girl. Nice work, Lauren. Nice to see more traditional works.

This is really nice!! Love the background!!
The neck it´s a bit large, i think....
But it´s great to see a partner in technique!

cool background, i really like it. i don't think the neck's too long, it's probably because we cannot see where the shoulder starts that it looks that way. good work, nice to see some good traditional stuff in here

Hmm, I feel like the composition needs a bit of work, I am not liking the head being chopped off at the top :( Also some of the tonal changes around the eye are a bit too sharp. The background on the other hand works exceptionally well, and the colors tie in perfectly with the foreground. I would just like to give you some quick advice about the size canvas you are using. That size and around that size is really like the deathtrap. It is right in the middle and you will find yourself making poor decisions about composition. I would recommend working on either smaller canvases or much bigger canvases.

Nice painting, I like the background and her pale skin. Neck is a bit long, but it looks elegant that way. You are talented. 7/7 ;)

It's good to see acrylics here at gfx, that aren't only landscapes. :) This is how I like acrylics!

It has a slight fantasy touch to it. The nectar was well painted. But I think the shadows in her ear are a bit too blue, don't you? Nice hair! And a very cool, and slightly sinister, background. It's quite abstract.

looks like she started to crack in the chin and pour her nectar out :) +9

Thanks everyone. :)

Sharkh20, thank you for your critiques. Afraid I have to disagree with you though. I do a lot of preparation work for acrylic compositions, so if there was a poor decision about the composition it came about in my thumbnail sketches. The cropping of the head was intentional. Maybe some people feel it is too tight, but it is what worked best to convey what I wanted to convey.

I keep seeing this come up on the 'Latest Elite Artwork'. I've been avoiding commenting on it but I can't not anymore. I really like this and I think you've done a wonderful job but I can't help but see the nectar as vomit. It's much better in the full pic but on the cropped one it's quite pronounced. I'm hoping the colours are more vivid on the original. Sorry.

it's amazing how one can just recon your work by just looking at the thumb. Very nice painting.
